Audra crosses paths with Holden at the outdoor café and is delighted to learn that Malcolm was released from the hospital today. Acting on impulse, she throws her arms around him.
After sitting down together, Holden reflects on how everything fell into place with Cane turning out to be Malcolm’s donor match. He’s also surprised by how genuinely happy Audra seems for him. Audra explains that the situation reminded her of everything surrounding Amy’s cancer battle, and besides, she’s in a much better place in her life these days.
Shifting to a more serious subject, Audra reveals that Noah has recreated The Shadow Room in Genoa City and that the venue opens tonight. Holden mutters, “Quite the trip down memory lane, huh?” Audra answers, “If we go.” Holden reminds her he swore he’d never enter that place again. He clearly has mixed feelings.
Audra points out that he once brought Claire there in Los Angeles. It may stir up painful memories, but she admits she’s curious. Holden wonders whether she’s interested in the club itself or Noah Newman. He pushes her to acknowledge that she still carries a flame for Noah and reminds her that Noah is with Sienna now. That kind of situation only leads to trouble.
A Steamy Dream
Outside on the Crimson Lights patio, Cane persuades Lily to sit with him, and she fills him in on Malcolm’s release. A group text from Mattie and Charlie arrives, and Cane becomes emotional reading their message praising what he did for Malcolm. Lily believes the twins are seeing the changes in him — the man they had been missing.
Cane confesses that he dreamed about sharing a passionate kiss with Lily. Laughing, she tells him, “You’d better keep dreaming.” He asks her to join him for breakfast, but Lily explains that Victor has called her to the ranch. Cane continues trying to make plans, and she eventually tells him she’ll be at Society in about an hour.
Inside Crimson Lights, Sharon, Nick and Noah discuss Newman being back in family hands. They agree that Phyllis is unlikely to be pleased. Nick admits she’s shaken badly and not thinking clearly. The conversation turns to Matt. Nick says a decision about him will be made this morning and assures them the situation will be handled.
Noah brings up the opening of The Shadow Room later that evening. He insists he’s doing it for Sienna, despite viewers learning earlier that she never wanted it. Nick confidently predicts everything will go smoothly, practically guaranteeing that something will go wrong.
A Serious Issue
At Society, a miserable-looking Phyllis is sitting alone when Daniel arrives. She thanks him for meeting her and explains that she has returned Newman to Victor and his family. Daniel is relieved, but he asks whether she was forced into it. If she was, then the real problem still remains.
Phyllis reacts with outrage. She points out that she finally did exactly what Daniel has wanted for months. As she launches into a tirade, Daniel laughs and says she still doesn’t understand and has learned nothing from the experience. Phyllis asks why both things can’t be true at the same time.
Daniel presses further, wanting to know whether she genuinely regrets her actions or simply sees herself as a wronged martyr. Just as Sharon and Noah enter, an emotional Phyllis insists that everything she did was for him and Summer from the very beginning. She wanted her children to see her as successful. Declaring that she doesn’t know why she even bothers explaining herself, she rushes out.
A Different Perspective
Daniel joins Sharon and Noah at the bar to talk about his mother. He wishes she could do the right thing simply because it’s right. Sharon explains that Phyllis has an intense need for validation and control, especially after everything that happened with Martin Laurent. Daniel admits he wishes he could be as understanding as Sharon, but he can’t. Sharon questions why he’s unable to find a path toward forgiving Phyllis.
Daniel remains convinced that his mother did not return Newman because it was morally right. She was forced into it and regrets every bit of it. In his eyes, she still views herself as the victim. Sharon encourages him to consider Phyllis’ perspective. She believes Phyllis feels she has sacrificed a great deal. If everyone continues treating her like an outcast, she’ll never truly change. Sharon then leaves to find her “friend.”
What Comes Next?
Back at the ranch, Matt tells Victor that he spent the entire night reflecting on his past and everything he has done. He admits he doesn’t understand why he made those choices and asks, “What happens to me now?”
Matt says he wants a chance to make things right. Victor replies that the discussion will continue once Nick arrives. Matt requests food and a shower. Victor laughs and makes it clear that Matt won’t be allowed out of his sight. Every move he makes will be watched, and he won’t be permitted to leave the ranch. Matt continues pleading for a shower. Victor remarks that Matt is either the greatest liar he has ever encountered or someone genuinely suffering from mental illness. He agrees to have him cleaned up. Matt thanks him for the kindness.
By the time Nick arrives, Matt is absent. Victor asks how Nick is doing. Nick acknowledges that overcoming addiction is difficult. He mentions attending a meeting and wanting to make amends. Victor blames Matt Clark for everything. Nick disagrees but wants to know what Victor intends to do with him.
Victor says Matt will stay close while he determines whether the man is truly remorseful. If he is, he could prove useful. Victor intends to put him through a major test to measure his sincerity. If Matt fails, Victor promises to destroy him without hesitation.
Making Things Right
Lily arrives as Nick stands nearby while Victor announces that Newman has been returned to him. Phyllis had no alternative. Victor explains that he invited Lily there to honor their agreement. Chancellor will now be hers. Nick visibly disapproves.
Lily confirms that she still wants the company and thanks Victor for honoring his promise. After she leaves, Nick immediately confronts his father. “What the hell, Dad?” Victor insists he did what needed to be done. Nick reminds him how Lily and the twins convinced Cane that they had been kidnapped. This revelation will devastate Jill. At that moment, Matt enters, announcing that he feels like a completely different man.
The Closing Moments
Phyllis arrives on the Crimson Lights patio in the middle of a panic attack.
At Society, Daniel tells Noah he’s happy the Newman family recovered the company. The two wonder whether Summer will react the same way Daniel did. Daniel hopes he and Summer can grow close again. Their discussion shifts to The Shadow Room, and Daniel says he plans to stop by and see it for himself.
After Daniel leaves, Audra arrives and notices Noah. Moving closer, she softly says, “Hey there.” She has heard all about the grand opening and can’t wait to see how he recreated The Shadow Room. She’s certain she’ll be impressed.
Back at the ranch, Matt apologizes to Nick for getting him addicted to drugs. He asks Victor whether they can finally discuss his future. Rising to his feet, Victor announces that Matt will face a test — a test of sincerity. Matt is thrilled and eager for an opportunity to make amends. Victor growls, “I want to know whether I can trust you.”
Meanwhile, at Crimson Lights, Sharon catches up with Phyllis. Phyllis wonders if Sharon came to tell her she had been right all along. Sharon sympathizes with her and says she seems to need a friend. Phyllis mourns the fact that she gave everything back and still lost her children. She feels she has lost everything. Sharon insists that everything she truly needs is already within her. She asks where the fighter from the clinic has gone. Taking Phyllis’ hand, Sharon urges her to get back out there and prove that Sharon believes in her for a reason.
At Society, Lily meets with Cane and reveals that Victor has given her Chancellor. Cane isn’t surprised, noting the immense respect Victor has for her. Lily then asks whether he would be willing to run the company for her.
