EJ is brooding in front of Stefano’s portrait when Cat arrives — after noticing he never came into the office — and pulls him back to reality. He tells her about Chanel’s breast cancer diagnosis, and Cat immediately offers to provide the miracle drug. “Absolutely not!” EJ fires back.
Is Cat Making a Move?
He insists the medication will go through strict FDA review before being used on any living patients. Everything has to be done properly. No pregnant women and no testing on Cat’s mother. EJ then apologizes, gently places a hand on her arm, and asks how he can help her feel better. When she tries to leave, he encourages her to stay. (A bit unsettling, EJ, especially after flirting with Gabi not long ago.)
The two settle in to watch the big game, share drinks, compare baseball with cricket, and discuss parts of Cat’s past. Eventually, she apologizes for being unable to recover her memories from Italy. EJ assures her that’s alright because they can create new memories together. Whatever she’s comfortable with, of course. Cat suggests they begin with holding hands… and perhaps even a kiss.
Belle and Chad Grow Closer
Belle and Jada review Stephanie’s shooting incident to determine how the district attorney’s office intends to handle it. Belle knows it was an accident and doesn’t consider Stephanie a threat, so there’s no immediate issue. Unless, of course, Joy decides to file a report. But that can wait for another day because the women already have plans.
Belle meets Chad and the children in the town square to attend the baseball game, all four dressed in Cubs gear. They pause in the park so Charlotte can feel better before heading into the stadium, and the evening turns into a lovely family outing.
Are Jada and Shawn Becoming a Couple?
Jada meets Shawn at Small Bar, also to watch the Cubs game, and casually mentions that Belle is attending with Chad and the kids. Shawn simply nods, showing no visible reaction. He brings up Stephanie, noting how difficult it can be to remain objective when your work involves someone you care about. (Which is exactly why another officer should be handling the case.) Naturally, the conversation shifts toward the feelings they have for one another.
They admit they’ll miss spending time together once they’re no longer living under the same roof. At the same time, neither wants to violate Salem Police Department rules. Fortunately, Jada understands those policies well and knows how they work. Technically, Shawn doesn’t report to her, meaning they would only need to disclose a relationship if one actually develops.
Will Stephanie Be Alright?
Kayla and Steve rush over to see Alex, who updates them while Stephanie is asleep. Since Alex needs to step out briefly, they stay behind in case she wakes up — and when she does, it’s with a terrified scream. Her parents hurry into the bedroom as Stephanie sobs that she killed Joy.
Once she settles down, Kayla asks how many sleeping pills she took. Stephanie explains that she took two, spread between the flight and after arriving home, which Kayla points out was pushing the dosage. (Though one still wonders exactly what kind of sleeping pills they were.)
Steve reviews firearm safety once again, but when he says the gun will remain locked in a safe, Stephanie insists she doesn’t want it at all.
Having it around makes her feel less secure than ever. Steve is relieved to hear that, and Kayla suggests she may still be dealing with PTSD, which means another visit with Marlena could be necessary.
Stephanie’s parents simply hold her close and reassure her through her tears that she’s going to be okay.
Will Joy Press Charges?
Alex returns to the Pub, where Joy and Kelsey are waiting, takes a deep breath, and apologizes on Stephanie’s behalf. Then he hesitantly asks whether she intends to file a complaint.
“Damn right I do!” Joy responds.
Alex attempts to calm her down, but Joy refuses to budge. In her view, he didn’t come there because he cared about her condition. He came to protect his wife from going to jail, and Joy believes that’s exactly where Stephanie belongs.
Then Joy raises the stakes. Even if Stephanie avoids prison, she will never be allowed near Kelsey again. Alex is welcome to visit his daughter at Joy’s home whenever he wants, provided Stephanie isn’t there.
Gun or no gun, Joy considers Alex’s wife unstable and doesn’t trust her. Therefore, if Alex wants Stephanie to stay out of jail, he must agree to keep her away from Kelsey.
Alex is far from pleased, but he ultimately accepts the arrangement.
In the Show’s Final Moments
Alex returns home and updates the Johnson family about what happened with Joy. However, he leaves out the condition Joy imposed to keep Stephanie from facing prison time. Later, the family heads out for ice cream, where Alex spots Joy pushing Kelsey through the town square and immediately freezes.
Stephanie wants to apologize, but Alex advises her to let it go for now.
Jada and Shawn admit they both want something more and share a kiss.
Meanwhile, on the stadium’s big screen, the kiss cam catches Belle and Chad doing exactly the same thing.
